This Budweiser 9/11 Commercial Will Send Chills Down Your Spine
When you think of America, one of the images that most commonly comes to mind are the Budweiser Clydesdales. They are an iconic piece of our culture, woven into the very fabric of our society. Whether you are a beer drinker or more of the tee-totaling type, you will recognize these famous horses anywhere.
Budweiser’s series of commercials featuring the horses are an essential piece of Americana and when they used the Clydesdales for a 9/11 tribute ad, the hair on the back of our necks stood up. It was created at a moment when the American people were most in need of hope and while it was initially designed to be a one off, it has achieved a certain level of importance in national lore.
The ad was originally aired during the 2002 edition of the Super Bowl and while most of the commercials that are usually aired during the big game are designed to be humorous, risque or display well timed celebrity cameos, the objective of this ad was much different.
The 2002 Super Bowl was the first after 9/11 took place and what better way to display American pride than to create a patriotic commercial that can air during one of the country’s most cherished unofficial holidays? While the Super Bowl is not considered a traditional holiday by any measure, it is used as a day for our country to come together and enjoy spending time with one another.
The commercial was aired during the game and immediately retired, but a savvy YouTube user decided to liberate it from the recesses of our memories by uploading it to the popular video sharing site in 2008. Thanks to their efforts, we can now see the commercial again and realize just how lucky we are to be American.
After all, isn’t that what its all about? In a time where it has never been more trendy to take shots at the state of the nation, it can be difficult for people to remember just how fragile America was following 9/11.
Those of us who have been in search of this commercial since its initial airing can now share it with our closest friends and family. As for those who have never seen it before, be sure to pull up a chair and see this incredible moment for yourself. While you may shed a tear or two, we promise you that the experience will be well worth your while.
